Tyler Thompson, Chinese Opera Singer

If I (a Chinese-American) can be in La Traviata, an Italian Opera, then this kid can do Chinese Opera. It's America, anything can happen. Click here for the story from the SF Chronicle.

Here's a gem from the article:

"We teach the meaning of the song, even if they don't speak Chinese, so they know what they are singing about," Chew said.

That's the key to singing. I sing alot of German songs, do I speak German? No. But I know the meaning of each and every phrase I sing and I use that to emote. That's the difference between just singing and truly making music.
