OT: I'm jumping in...
I've decided to jump into the Schiavo commentary that has been taking place on some other California baseball blogs like here and here.
I've already thrown in my two cents on this poor lady's situation so I'm just going to comment on the general craziness surrounding the case, from the AP, by way of the San Francisco Chronicle:
Paul O'Donnell, a Roman Catholic Franciscan monk, said the family unsuccessfully urged Michael Schiavo to allow his wife the sacrament of communion during the holiest feast of the Catholic year. She received last rites the day the feeding tube was pulled.Correct me if I'm wrong, because I actually can be wrong, but aren't last rites supposed to be "last" and not "second to last?"
Are you really professing your faith? Or are you just doing it for the cameras? Wasn't it Jesus who warned against performing religious acts only to attract the attention of others?
(But) take care not to perform righteous deeds in order that people may see them; otherwise, you will have no recompense from your heavenly Father. What would Jesus do? I'd think he'd frown on this farce. Yes, somewhere in Florida a group of laymen and clergy are making a total and complete farce out of my religion. I'm really tired of a bunch of extremeists hijacking my religion. Claiming a religion is much different from practicing a religion.
When you give alms, do not blow a trumpet before you, as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and in the streets to win the praise of others. Amen, I say to you, they have received their reward.
But when you give alms, do not let your left hand know what your right is doing, so that your almsgiving may be secret. And your Father who sees in secret will repay you.
"When you pray, do not be like the hypocrites, who love to stand and pray in the synagogues and on street corners so that others may see them. Amen, I say to you, they have received their reward. But when you pray, go to your inner room, close the door, and pray to your Father in secret. And your Father who sees in secret will repay you. In praying, do not babble like the pagans, who think that they will be heard because of their many words...
..."When you fast, do not look gloomy like the hypocrites. They neglect their appearance, so that they may appear to others to be fasting. Amen, I say to you, they have received their reward.-Matthew 6:1-7, 16-18
- But when you fast, anoint your head and wash your face, so that you may not appear to be fasting, except to your Father who is hidden. And your Father who sees what is hidden will repay you.
Why can't all of us who claim to be good Christians stop this charade and actually be good Christians. Why don't we start loving one another and forgiving each other's faults. Why don't we spread peace on Earth and goodwill for all, or be charitable towards the poor and less fortunate?
We don't because being like that is "gay" and America hates things that are "gay."
Since it is not my place in the world to judge people, I guess all I can do is to forgive. We're all human beings, and as such, are fallible. We make mistakes no matter what we are in this world.
Happy Easter, He is risen.
Speaking of Easter, I have a mass in less than seven hours...need sleep.
