Gone too far...

Student Dies During Initiation Activity at Chico Fraternity

"CHICO, Calif.--A 21-year-old Chico State University student has died after drinking a large amount of water during pledge activity at a fraternity house.

Police say Matthew William Carrington of Pleasant Hill was in the basement of the Chi Tau house early this morning when he stopped breathing. "

-AP wire report

Damn. I remember partying with the Chi Taus back in the day...When they were Delta Sigs. They lost their national charter in 2002. I remembered making a road trip up to Chico right after they lost their charter, we didn't know about it then. They told us a story of they lost their charter due to a "minor alcohol infraction." Later I learned from somebody else that the infraction wasn't so minor and it wasn't just alcohol.

I'm going to plead the fifth when it comes to my pledging activities, but I can say that I have never felt threatened for my life when I was a pledge. Nor did I do anything so blatantly stupid. At first I was sad to see the Chico guys go but...Not anymore, they're not my bros anymore.

Damn.

Addendum to post [2/3/05 6:00 PM]:

Here's a link to the story as reported by the San Francisco Chronicle, what bunch of idiots. I can't believe they just left a guy alone to pass out after he had a fucking seizure.
