Messed up outfield...
Towards the end of each season at Oakland the grass in the outfield, especially in center, gets really messed up thanks to the Raiders. The Oakland Coliseum, in general, is messed up year round thanks to football seats built for the Raiders. Click here to see what the Oakland Coliseum is supposed to look like.
Thanks to a bit of info I found from The Nats Blog I've found out that the Nats and the DC United soccer team will be sharing RFK Stadium while playing seasons that overlap each other. I guess there will be another team in the bigs that will have to deal with messed up grass in outfield. It also seems that the Nats will have to deal with messed up grass long before the A's will have to.
Personally I don't mind the messed up grass. I think is a charming little quirk: Wrigley has the ivy, Fenway has the Green Monster, the Metrodome has the plastic bags, SBC has McCovey Cove, Oakland, and I guess DC now, has messed up grass. But that's my opinion, and I don't have to play on it either.
You can bitch all you want about messed up grass in Oakland, but I swear that nothing is finer than Chavvy catching a foul pop in the end zone for a touchdown.

The grass at RFK shouldn't get too bad, because unlike football, soccer isn't played exclusively in the center ten yards of the field. Spread it out a little, and the grass should stay pretty green. In fact, I'd say that United has more cause to worry about brown patches forming under the feet of sedentary outfielders than anything else than the other way around.
Besides, United was there first, and they've kept that stadium alive for the past few years. The Nat's really don't have any gripe.
Well the damage to grass at CF in Oakland is actually caused by the football bleachers that cover the CF grass. However, I will agree with you that the grass at RFK won't be as messed up as the grass in Oakland, but the Nats will have to deal with it longer that the A's will have to.
But the Nats are guaranteed to move into a baseball-only facility, the future of the A's is not so clear.
On a side note, Richard, don't you think it's ironic that in the years since filming Angels in the Outfield at the Oakland Coliseum, the Big A tore down the football seats and kinda resembles the Oakland Coliseum and the Coliseum added football seats?
Hey, thanks for the birthday wish! And I agree, there is nothing wrong with messed up grass. I can't wait till baseball season starts! Are you planning on going to Fanfest next month?
Unfortunately, Fan Fest is out of the question, I have a rehearsal. The sacrifices I make for art.
